Example of "A good listener few words"

The best example for this saying is the anecdote of Cardinal Mazarin, successor of Cardinal Richelieu.

It is said that, one day, a beggar decides to request an audience with the cardinal to ask for help for all the misfortunes and hardships he was going through.

Cardinal Mazarino agrees to give the beggar an audience on one condition: that he could only express himself with two words.

The beggar accepts the condition and when he is in front of the cardinal he summarizes his misfortunes in two words: "Hunger, cold." So the cardinal nods and, pointing to the beggar, says to his secretary: "Food, clothes."

The beggar leaves the audience satisfied, stammering the famous saying: "A good listener, few words."
