Extra-condensed knowledge

Extra condensed knowledge complements ultra condensed knowledge.

  • Bloomberg has released BloombergGPT, a new large language model (LLM) that has been trained on enormous amounts of financial data and can help with a range of natural language processing (NLP) activities for the financial sector. BlooombergGPT is a cutting-edge AI that can evaluate financial data quickly to help with risk assessments, gauge financial sentiment, and possibly even automate accounting and auditing activities.
  • According to a statement from Bloomberg, an AI that is specifically trained with financial information is necessary due to the complexity and distinctive vocabulary of the financial business. The Bloomberg Terminal, a computer software platform used by investors and financial professionals to access real-time market data, breaking news, financial research, and advanced analytics, will be accessible to BloombergGPT.
  • BloombergGPT represents the first step in the development and application of this new technology for the financial industry. With the use of this model, Bloomberg will be able to enhance its current financial NLP capabilities, including sentiment analysis, named entity recognition, news classification, and question-answering, among others.

  • Science fiction is becoming reality before our eyes. And there's no area where changes are happening faster than in artificial intelligence (AI). OpenAI's ChatGPT has taken the world by storm. But it's just one of several recent major AI developments.
  • Most lists of the top AI stocks will include obvious candidates. Microsoft has made a huge splash with its ChatGPT integration and major investment in OpenAI. Alphabet has long ranked among the leaders in AI. So have Amazon and IBM.
  • Nvidia is another key player in AI. The company's graphics processing units (GPUs) are ideal for handling the intense workloads associated with AI apps.
  • Goldman Sachs predicts that 300 billion jobs worldwide could be automated using generative AI by 2030. The Wall Street firm also estimates that two-thirds of U.S. jobs could be partially automated by AI. The resulting increased labor productivity could boost global gross domestic product (GDP) by 7%.
  • Walmart projects that 65% of its stores will be serviced by automation in some way by the end of 2026. But that percentage and the extent of automation will almost certainly increase a lot over the longer term.
  • Many companies could see their profits skyrocket as technology enables them to drastically reduce costs. This should especially apply to large employers with strong track records of technological innovation. Walmart fits this description to a T.

  • Sundar Pichai talks to The Wall Street Journal at a pivotal time for the tech company
  • Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai faces one of his biggest tests as the leader of the search giant, as he balances the need to respond to the threat from chatbots such as ChatGPT—developed by the Microsoft Corp.-backed startup OpenAI—with investor pressure on the Alphabet Inc. to cut costs.
  • Sundar Pichai: This is such an exciting moment because there are a lot of ideas we’ve had in terms of how we can help our users, but you didn’t quite have a powerful technology capability to actually realize those ideas. I think we’re moving fast, and when I look at our road map for the next few months, we’ll be bringing out a lot of these things like we’ve done in the last few weeks. Workspace has announced features both in Gmail and Google Docs, which are beginning to roll out. We’ve announced Bard. There’s a lot more to come.

  • Firms are turning to advanced technologies to help answer a surprisingly tricky question: Where do products really come from?
  • Amid growing concern about opacity and abuses in global supply chains, companies and government officials are increasingly turning to technologies like DNA tracking, artificial intelligence and blockchains to try to trace raw materials from the source to the store.
  • Companies in the United States are now subject to new rules that require firms to prove their goods are made without forced labor, or face having them seized at the border. U.S. customs officials said in March that they had already detained nearly a billion dollars’ worth of shipments coming into the United States that were suspected of having some ties to Xinjiang. Products from the region have been banned since last June.

  • In their new book, Tom Davenport and Nitin Mittal uncover how leading organizations reap vast benefits from artificial intelligence, redefining processes and markets alike. The secret? Aggressive adoption.
  • Despite all the attention generative AI is getting right now, most organizations have done little with artificial intelligence. That is a big mistake, says Tom Davenport, senior advisor to Deloitte’s Analytics practice. Enterprises, especially industry leaders, need to be all-in on AI if they are to remain competitive.
  • To truly benefit from AI investments, organizations must rethink how humans and machines interact in work environments, Davenport says, starting with applications that change how employees do their jobs and how they interact with customers. AI should help drive every business decision, and every product or service offering.
  • Organizations need to incorporate AI into business processes and workflows. They need to upskill staff to work with AI. And they need to ensure the AI technology can scale. They also need to do these things over time, to ensure the world doesn’t change in a way that makes the effort counter-productive.

Condensed knowledge

The condensed knowledge complements the extra and ultra condensed knowledge.

  • Generative AI will change the nature of content creation, enabling many to do what, until now, only a few had the skills or advanced technology to accomplish at high speed. As this burgeoning technology develops, users must respect the rights of those who have enabled its creation – those very content creators who may be displaced by it. And while we understand the real threat of generative AI to part of the livelihood of members of the creative class, it also poses a risk to brands that have used visuals to meticulously craft their identity.  At the same time both creatives and corporate interests have a dramatic opportunity to build portfolios of their works and branded materials, meta-tag them, and train their own generative-AI platforms that can produce authorized, proprietary, (paid-up or royalty-bearing) goods as sources of instant revenue streams.

  • Two prominent figures in the artificial intelligence industry, Yann LeCun, the chief AI scientist at Meta, and Andrew Ng, the founder of Deep Learning, argued against a proposed pause on the development of powerful AI systems in an online discussion on Friday.
  • The discussion, titled “Why the 6-Month AI Pause Is a Bad Idea,” was hosted on YouTube and drew thousands of viewers.
  • During the event, LeCun and Ng challenged an open letter that was signed by hundreds of artificial intelligence experts, tech entrepreneurs and scientists last month, calling for a moratorium of at least six months on the training of AI systems more advanced than GPT-4, a text-generating program that can produce realistic and coherent replies to almost any question or topic.
Yann LeCun and Andrew Ng: Why the 6-month AI Pause is a Bad Idea

  • AI-generated art has been around for several years, although it wasn’t until recently that it became mainstream. In terms of its market, AI art creation platforms fall into the AI-generated content (AIGC) bucket.
  • DALL-E 2 is one type of AIGC. It creates images of comparable quality to those produced by human artists by inputting certain keywords into the machines’ parameters. And that ease of use translates into big business. According to InsightSLICE, the global AIGC market will reach $38.2 billion by 2030.

  • The mind-bending new technology will function like an Industrial revolution for creativity, allowing brands to move faster and get better results.
  • “Some people worry that artificial intelligence will make us feel inferior,” Kay noted. ”But then, anybody in his right mind should have an inferiority complex every time he looks at a flower.”
  • It’s not hard to see his point. A flower is infinitely complex in its design, with trillions of molecules coalescing in predestined genetic harmony. But most people only see the pretty petals. And they don’t worry that a flower may evolve and take their job. But according to a recent survey, nearly 69% of college graduates in the U.S. believe that AI will replace them at work—or make them irrelevant within the next few years.
  • Generative AI opens up a new era of creative skills. The next generation of artists and creatives will be closer to generalists. They’ll understand various aspects of art, anthropology, history, sociology, and music and use these broad cultural insights to guide the unrivaled dot-connecting-capacity of AI. Keyword wizards will map new routes to create something genuinely novel, creating stuff we’ve never before seen—and at speeds we could never previously imagine.

  • Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI could mean billions of dollars a year in new revenue as workloads pile up in Azure.
  • The investment, which most recently values OpenAI at a reported $29 billion, is complicated given the company’s “capped-profit” model.
  • Microsoft is integrating the technology into its Bing search engine, sales and marketing software, GitHub coding tools, Microsoft 365 productivity bundle and Azure cloud.
  • Based on its existing valuation, the more probable path for OpenAI is an eventual IPO, said Scott Raney, a managing director at Redpoint Ventures.
  • According to PitchBook data, OpenAI is on pace to generate $200 million in revenue this year, up 150% from 2022, and then $1 billion in 2024, which would imply 400% growth.
