  • Today’s digital twins are much more advanced. Not only do they pull in real-time data, but many also use artificial intelligence to capture insights and make predictions, such as identifying potential problems before they happen. The technology also can eliminate the need for physical prototyping of products such as automobiles, and offer a way to test different configurations for spaces such as warehouses and stores, potentially saving time and money.
  • Now, companies in every industry are looking at the technology to help them improve processes, reduce costs, conserve resources, boost employee safety and productivity, or some combination of these possibilities, says Alfonso Velosa, a vice president analyst at Gartner. Last year, 17% of organizations in a Gartner survey said they have or plan to deploy digital twins.

  • Yet even though customer experience (CX) leaders are becoming increasingly focused on optimizing their firms’ customer journeys, they face a clear challenge: Which touchpoints along the journey should they invest in? That is, which moments when the customer interacts with their brand are most impactful to their overall experience?
  • In short, all managers should invest in customer journeys, yet how they think about the journey influences how they invest in it. Consider shifting from a stage-wise conceptualization to unveiling the underlying patterns of your customers’ journeys, and invest in their peaks, area under the curve, slopes, and endings. If you create the right patterns of experience in customers’ minds, they will summarize their experiences positively.

  • The Covid-19 pandemic normalized remote work as a global standard. This means we now have a global workplace for tech workers that allows employers anywhere to get the best talent available globally. I have been inundated with emails from tech recruiters and software start-ups specializing in remote teams for nearly two years. SMEs may now have the ability to get the people they need for digital transformation projects on a permanent or fractional basis.
  • The public cloud has been around for more than 15 years now. It has matured, and, more importantly, the ecosystem of professional services around it has matured. Today, consultants and service providers are available to help an organization of any size migrate to the cloud and maintain its platforms. Conditions have never been better for SMEs to tackle digital projects, whether for revenue growth or cost savings.

  • Today, consumer expectations are changing as we become familiar with quick access to services, such as making a purchase with just a few clicks on Amazon, banking remotely with Revolut, and ordering food and groceries using Deliveroo. These digital-first businesses have built their processes with the customer at the center. Given how nimble they are, that’s been a difficult act to follow.
  • Covid-19 provided traditional businesses with an opportunity to level the digital playing field. 
  • These digital services are often accessed via smart devices for convenience and speed. And now, driven by the need to enhance the consumer experience, they are incorporating new technologies, such as biometric identification (e.g., fingerprint or facial recognition), to support easy access and secure customer data.

  • Innovation in business is the ability to conceive, develop, deliver, and scale new products, services, processes, and business models, according to McKinsey.
  • America’s Most Innovative Companies list for 2023, released yesterday by Fortune, in partnership with Statista, recognizes 300 companies transforming industries from the inside out in a variety of ways.
  • Most of the top 10 companies on the list come from the tech sector, with Alphabet taking the No. 1 spot. However, a financial services company made the top 10—Capital One Financial.
