      • Joe Atkinson, vice chair and U.S. chief products and technology officer at professional-services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, said he is hearing from businesses that are simply unsure where to start. Earlier this year, the accounting firm announced its own $1 billion investment in generative AI across its U.S. operations over the next three years, seeking to automate aspects of its tax, audit and consulting services.

      • Amazon’s cloud unit said Thursday that it’s allocating $100 million for a center to help companies use generative artificial intelligence, the technology that’s taken off in the months since OpenAI unleashed its ChatGPT chatbot on the public.
      • As part of the latest announcement, Amazon said it will be adding some data scientists, engineers and solutions architects to the payroll. AWS said the center is already working with Highspot, Twilio, RyanAir and Lonely Planet. The company told CNBC that it’s a “program” rather than a physical center.
      • Amazon, which beat Microsoft and Google to the business of renting out servers and data storage to companies and other organizations, enjoys a commanding lead in the cloud infrastructure market. However, those rivals have had splashier entrances into generative AI, even though Amazon has drawn broadly on AI for years to show shopping recommendations and operate its Alexa voice assistant.
      • “I think the whole world has a shortage in the short term of compute capacity for doing generative AI and machine learning in general right now,” AWS CEO Adam Selipsky said. People are impatient, and the situation will improve in the next few months, he added.
      • “AI is going to be this next wave of innovation in the cloud,” he said. “It’s going to be the next big thing that pushes even more customers to want to be in the cloud. Really, you need the cloud for generative AI.”

      • Students who do not use artificial intelligence in their schooling and college application process will be at a disadvantage, an AI founder told FOX Business.
      • "AI in education is as inevitable as the internet or a search engine, which also people were skeptical about in the beginning," said Julia Dixon, a former tutor who created ES.AI, a generative AI tool for college applications. "Students who never use AI and those kinds of resources that can really up-level the work that they're doing are going to be at a disadvantage."
      • "The sooner that students can get familiar with this tech, the more ahead they'll be in the rest of the education and professional world," she continued.
      • Artificial intelligence has proven it can write not just emails, essays and epitaphs, but poems, songs and movie scripts, too. As the nascent technology makes writing easier, students using generative AI to write essays and do homework have been criticized as cheaters. 
      • "Using AI to help with your college application is not cheating as long as you're using ethical tools and ethical practices," Dixon told FOX Business. "You should never submit AI-generated work as a final product."

      • Generative artificial intelligence, the technology that viral chatbot ChatGPT is based on, could be the new battleground in the battle for tech supremacy between the U.S. and China, according to one analyst.
      • Blinken spoke about areas of co-operation between the U.S. and China such as the climate crisis and the economy. But advanced technology is one area the two nations remain in competition.
      • “But, at the same time, as I said, it’s not in our interest to provide technology to China that could be used against us,” Blinken said on Monday.
      • “What China wants, the U.S. isn’t going to give, like opening up the chip ecosystem to Beijing or not scrutinizing Chinese investment in U.S. technology,” Abishur Prakash, CEO of Toronto-based advisory firm, The Geopolitical Business, said. “The U.S.-China battle for technology supremacy is about to enter its primetime.”

      • Generative AI will eventually impact everyone. Best begin to learn to communicate better now, or you’ll likely regret the impact it has on you.   
      • Chatter about generative AI is seemingly everywhere these days, and seemingly overhyped. What if everyone is actually underestimating the changes barreling toward us?
      • Things are changing fast in tech. I’ve seen a number of arguments that we are overhyping generative AI, but then I came across this video from Wharton University's Ethan Mollick. (It’s around 10 minutes long and well worth watching.) Not only does it show what these new tools can do, but stresses that companies using the tools have reported between a 30% and 80% increase in productivity as a result.
      • Generative AI is about to have a major impact on productivity.
      • Generative AI and app creation. With generative AI, the people who need an app can generate the code themselves. And if they aren’t able to articulate what they want to another human, their ability to direct a faster, non-human AI is going to be inadequate, too. The AI tool will respond to what it thinks it was asked and, unless it has some kind of unique filter, should spit out a result faster. But it likely will be worse than if a human had tackled the job.
      • One big difference in this scenario is that the user can then iterate the code and have the tool correct the problems created by the initial inadequate directions.
      • Faster and faster? I agree with Mollick that generative AI is a bigger deal than we think, which is amazing given how much we seem to be over-hyping it now. This technology is advancing at a blindingly fast pace, largely because the folks creating it are also using it in the creation process. And as the tools improve, they will further supercharge related development efforts to a degree it isn’t hard to imagine coders being taken out of the loop and AIs begin evolving autonomously. When that happens, this already fast development process will seem slow by comparison.

When asked to name relevant objectives, 78% of marketers picked greater efficiency, while 63% said they think AI will help them produce new kinds of content.

      • AI’s ability to draw on vast pools of data to help create ads could begin to outpace human performance in a foreseeable future.
      • Pressure is growing to embrace the technology in the name of both enhanced productivity and costs savings.
      • The biggest long-term impact may be in how AI changes the nature of jobs in marketing. Executives say they will inevitably need to reconfigure workloads and recruit people with AI expertise, while some say the shifts will leave their teams with fewer employees and smaller budgets.
      • Job losses will remain modest for some time due to legal and regulatory uncertainty surrounding AI, according to market research firm Forrester.
      • CMOs are working to assuage employees’ fear of losing their jobs.
      • “We are consciously trying to remove the fear. We’re not looking to replace a job; we’re looking to do more with the same group,” said Orlando Baeza, chief revenue officer and head of marketing for logistics startup Flock Freight.
