genioux Facts:

Steve LiesmanCNBC Senior Economics Reporter, authored the article "Large Majority of Americans Have Strong Reservations About A.I. Emergence, CNBC Survey Shows," which was published on CNBC and discusses golden knowledge.

There is a need for more education about the potential benefits, risks, and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI).

Given the recent increase in negative anti-AI posts, it is not surprising that there has been a 10-point increase since 2016 in the number of people who are very or somewhat uncomfortable with AI.

The fact that 69% of Americans are very or somewhat uncomfortable with AI is concerning. This is likely even worse in other countries.

I asked my two brilliant AI assistants, Bard and Bing Chatbot, to write a summary of the potential benefits, risks, and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) for Americans and people all over the world.

CNBC Facts:

The lighthouse has identified 10 key facts from this outstanding golden knowledge container (GKC).

  1. The survey of 1,000 adults was conducted July 12-16 and has a margin of error of +/-3.1%.
  2. While the tech industry and the stock market enthusiastically back the emergence of artificial intelligence, the CNBC All-America Economic survey finds that the public has strong reservations, what you might call AI-anxiety.
  3. The survey found that just 27% say they are comfortable with efforts “underway to develop computer programs that can mimic human thinking and possibly replace human activity in a number of areas.”
  4. Sixty-nine percent say they are very or somewhat uncomfortable, a 10-point jump from when the survey last asked the question in 2016.
  5. As AI has crept more into the public conversation, and perhaps into daily usage, groups that once might have welcomed it are having second thoughts.
  6. In every single demographic group, majorities are now uncomfortable with AI, in some cases considerably more than they were in 2016.
  7. Americans express discomfort with AI in several of the major places where they likely already or might soon encounter it.
  8. Sixty-six percent are uncomfortable with AI in customer service; 65% in medical diagnosis and 76% when it comes to self-driving cars.
  9. The survey, however, did not find widespread concern among Americans about losing their job to a robot.
  10. Twenty-one percent said AI would likely make their job easier, while 18% thought AI could replace them at work; 10% thought it would make their job more difficult but 49% thought it would have no impact.

Bard's Summary

Sure, here is a summary of the potential benefits, risks, and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) for Americans and people all over the world:

Benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Automating tasks: AI can automate many tasks that are currently done by humans, freeing up our time for more creative and fulfilling activities. For example, AI can be used to automate customer service, medical diagnosis, and even driving cars.
  • Personalizing experiences: AI can be used to personalize our experiences, making them more relevant and engaging. For example, AI can be used to recommend products to us based on our past purchases or to tailor news articles to our interests.
  • Solving complex problems: AI can be used to solve complex problems that are currently beyond our capabilities. For example, AI can be used to develop new medical treatments, design more efficient transportation systems, and even predict natural disasters.
  • Improving efficiency and productivity: AI can be used to improve the efficiency and productivity of businesses, which can lead to economic growth and job creation. For example, AI can be used to optimize supply chains, automate manufacturing processes, and even develop new products.

Risks of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Harming people: AI could be used to harm people, either intentionally or unintentionally. For example, AI could be used to develop autonomous weapons that could kill without human intervention. It could also be used to spread misinformation or propaganda that could lead to violence or social unrest.
  • Leading to job losses: AI could lead to job losses, as machines become capable of performing tasks that are currently done by humans. This could have a significant impact on the economy, as well as on the lives of those who lose their jobs.
  • Creating new forms of inequality: AI could also lead to the creation of new forms of inequality, as those who have access to AI technology benefit more than those who do not. This could widen the gap between the rich and the poor, and could lead to social unrest.

Challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Ensuring that AI is used for good: One of the biggest challenges of AI is ensuring that it is used for good and not for harm. This will require careful ethical considerations and international cooperation.
  • Ensuring that AI is accessible to everyone: Another challenge is ensuring that AI is accessible to everyone, not just those who can afford it. This will require governments and businesses to invest in AI research and development.
  • Developing AI in a transparent and accountable way: Finally, it is important to ensure that AI is developed in a way that is transparent and accountable. This will require clear rules and regulations governing the development and use of AI technology.

Conclusion

AI is a powerful technology with the potential to both benefit and harm humanity. It is important to be aware of the potential benefits, risks, and challenges of AI so that we can use this technology wisely.

I hope this summary is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Bing Chatbot's Summary

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to bring many benefits to society, but it also presents some risks and challenges that need to be addressed.

Some of the potential benefits of AI include increased accuracy and precision, as AI systems can significantly reduce errors when programmed properly 1. AI can also improve efficiency and productivity in various industries, from healthcare to transportation to customer service.

However, there are also risks and challenges associated with the widespread adoption of AI. One of the biggest risks is the potential for bias and discrimination, as AI systems can inadvertently perpetuate or amplify societal biases due to biased training data or algorithmic design 2. To minimize discrimination and ensure fairness, it is crucial to invest in the development of unbiased algorithms and diverse training data sets.

Another risk is the lack of transparency in AI systems, particularly in deep learning models that can be complex and difficult to interpret. This opaqueness obscures the decision-making processes and underlying logic of these technologies, which can lead to distrust and resistance to adopting these technologies 2.

Privacy concerns are also a significant challenge, as AI technologies often collect and analyze large amounts of personal data. To mitigate privacy risks, strict data protection regulations and safe data handling practices must be advocated for 2.

Ethical dilemmas also present a considerable challenge when it comes to instilling moral and ethical values in AI systems, especially in decision-making contexts with significant consequences. Researchers and developers must prioritize the ethical implications of AI technologies to avoid negative societal impacts 2.

Finally, security risks associated with the use and potential misuse of AI technologies are also a concern. Hackers and malicious actors can harness the power of AI to develop more advanced cyberattacks, bypass security measures, and exploit vulnerabilities in systems 2.

Overall, while AI has the potential to bring many benefits to society, it is important to carefully consider and address the risks and challenges associated with its widespread adoption.
